What is a bicycle loan?
A bicycle loan is a personal loan, a point-of-sale plan, or a community lender’s loan used to buy a new, used or electric bike — usually $500 to $7,500, repaid over 12 to 84 months. There’s no single credit score you need: the lenders below run from excellent-credit rates to no-score-needed.

Borrow less, pay less. A rebate shrinks the loan.
Borrow the full sticker price and you’ll pay interest on money your state would have handed you. A rebate knocks that part off before you borrow — so you finance less, and pay less interest. Sometimes it’s the difference between borrowing and not borrowing at all.
What people ask before they borrow
What credit score do you need to finance a bicycle?
There’s no single cut-off. Premium-rate lenders like LightStream look for good-to-excellent credit (≈700+), fair-credit lenders such as Upgrade start around 580, and Upstart can approve thin or no credit history. Buy-now-pay-later at checkout and community lenders like Spring Bank ask for little or no score at all.
Is financing a bicycle a good idea?
It depends on the alternative — financing can cost less than credit-card interest, and more than paying cash. Two things lower what it costs: a rebate (where you qualify) shrinks the amount you finance, and a shorter term means less total interest. The calculator shows the difference — interest on a long term can quietly double the cost.
Do banks give loans for bikes?
Most banks don’t market a “bike loan” specifically — you’d use a general unsecured personal loan and spend it on the bike. Credit unions and CDFIs (like Spring Bank in NYC) are the exception: several run dedicated bicycle-loan products, often with lower rates and no requirement that the bike be new.
Is it hard to get a bike loan?
Not especially. Because most bicycle financing is an unsecured personal loan or a point-of-sale plan, approval turns on your income and credit profile rather than the bike. Soft-pull pre-qualification (SoFi, Upgrade, Upstart) lets you see your rate without affecting your score first.
Can I get a loan against my bike?
It’s niche. A bicycle isn’t standard loan collateral the way a car is, so secured “loan against your bike” products are rare and expensive — typically pricier than an unsecured personal loan or a rent-to-own arrangement for the same bike.
