The bike loan calculator
that counts the tax

Most calculators forget two things: the sales tax on the full price, and the rebate that shrinks what you borrow. This one handles both.

How do you calculate a bicycle loan payment?

Your monthly payment comes from four numbers: the amount you borrow, the APR, the term, and — easy to forget — sales tax, which you owe on the full price even when a rebate is coming. Set them below to see your payment, the total interest, and which lenders fit.

Estimate, not a quote — what this means

A rounded estimate to model the cost, not your actual rate. Change any field — price, tax, APR, term — to fit your situation. Your real APR and monthly payment depend on the lender and your credit.

Sales tax: $115. Estimated at 7% of the full price ($1,649). If a rebate is paid after purchase it lowers what you borrow, not this tax; a point-of-sale discount may be taxed on the lower price. Rates are combined state + local, so they vary by city — look up yours.

Lenders that fit a $1,764 loan and good (680–719) credit

APR is an estimate to model payments — your real rate depends on the lender and your full profile. Soft-pull lenders let you check without affecting your score. We may earn a commission from some links.

Borrow less

A rebate shrinks the loan. Worth checking before you borrow.

Drop your rebate into the calculator and watch the amount financed fall — you pay interest on a smaller number. Find what your state, city or utility offers before you borrow.

Questions about the math

How is a bike loan payment calculated?

Your monthly payment is the amount you borrow, spread over the term, with interest at the APR. The amount you borrow is the bike price plus accessories and sales tax, minus any rebate. A longer term lowers the monthly payment but raises the total interest you pay.

Does a rebate lower my sales tax?

It depends how the rebate reaches you. With a rebate paid after purchase, you're taxed on the full price first and refunded part of the cost later — the tax doesn't shrink, only the amount you finance does. A point-of-sale program that discounts the price at checkout may instead be taxed on the lower price. Check your program's terms. This calculator taxes the full price by default — the conservative case — and treats the rebate as lowering what you borrow.

How does the loan term change the cost?

A shorter term raises the monthly payment but lowers the total interest; a longer term does the reverse. Stretching a loan from 36 to 72 months can roughly double the interest — the term selector shows the trade-off in real numbers.

Will checking my rate hurt my credit?

Not with soft-pull lenders. Several lenders (SoFi, Upgrade, Upstart) let you pre-qualify and see your real rate with only a soft credit check, which doesn’t affect your score. A hard check happens only if you formally apply.
