DoorDash lets you deliver by bicycle or e-bike — they’re official vehicle types, offered in select cities, and you pick the dash type in the app. You must be 18 or older (19 in some states, 21 in California), with a smartphone, a government ID and a Social Security number for a background check. You must be 18, not 16
DoorDash’s minimum age is 18 — 19 in some states, 21 in California. There’s no path to deliver at 16, with or without a parent. Searches for “DoorDash at 16” lead nowhere.

No licence — just an ID
Bike-only Dashers don’t need a driver’s licence, car insurance or registration. A government photo ID plus a Social Security number for the background check is all DoorDash asks.

It’s city by city
Bike delivery is only offered in select, bikeable markets. If it’s available where you are, Bicycle and Ebike show up as dash types in the app. If they don’t, your area isn’t enabled yet.

- Sign up as a Dasher and pass the background check — Checkr runs it from your SSN.
- In the app, add your vehicle under Vehicle Management and pick Bicycle or Ebike.
- Before a shift, switch your dash type to the bike. You’ll get shorter, local orders suited to cycling.

An e-bike covers far more ground
Either works for DoorDash. An e-bike just lets you take more orders per shift without burning out. The one catch is local law, not DoorDash: in New York City an e-bike must be UL 2849 certified and is capped at 15 mph on the street. We round up the bikes built for the job.
