The credit unions that
actually finance a bike

Most credit unions will just point you at a personal loan. A handful run a real bicycle or e-bike loan — often cheaper than a bank, sometimes with no credit check at all.

Do credit unions offer bicycle loans?

A handful of US credit unions run a dedicated bicycle or e-bike loan — most don’t. The one open to anyone in any state is Clean Energy Credit Union, with an e-bike loan from 8.24% APR. The cheapest we found is Point West in Portland at 5.74%, if you can join. And one — Spring Bank in New York — needs no credit score at all.

Before you count on one, check three things

  • Can you join?

A credit union loan is members-only. Most of these are regional — you qualify by where you live or work. A few let anyone in the country join, sometimes for a $5 donation.

  • “As low as” isn’t your rate

The headline APR is the one for excellent credit, usually with autopay. Yours could be higher. Just one lender here skips the credit check completely.

  • Some won’t quote a rate online

A few only tell you the rate after you apply — so you’ll need to call or start the application to get a real number.

Rates shown are the lowest each lender advertises — usually for excellent credit, often with autopay — so the rate you’re offered may be higher. “Personal loan” rows are general loans you can spend on a bike, not bike-specific products. Confirm the terms on the lender’s page before you apply. Last checked 2 June 2026.

Can’t join a local one?

Clean Energy is open to all 50 states

Almost every dedicated bike loan is regional — you have to live or work in the area. The exception is Clean Energy Credit Union: its e-bike loan runs $500–$15,000 from 8.24% APR, and anyone in the US can join free through Solar United Neighbors as you apply. If no local credit union will have you, start here.

Find one in your state

Most of these are members-only by geography. Pick your state to see the local lenders you can join — plus the national ones open to everyone.

Not sure a credit union fits?

A credit union is one route. See it next to the others.

Membership and a slower application are the price of a credit union’s lower rate. If you’d rather decide at the bike shop, or your credit needs work, compare credit unions against personal loans and buy-now-pay-later side by side — then run your real monthly cost.

What people ask about credit-union bike loans

Do credit unions give loans for bikes?

Some do, but most don't market a bike loan specifically — they'd point you to a general personal loan. A small number run a dedicated bicycle or e-bike loan, and they're often cheaper than a bank. Clean Energy Credit Union's e-bike loan starts at 8.24% APR and is open to anyone in the US; the rest are regional.

Which credit union has the best e-bike loan?

It depends on what you can join. On rate, Point West Credit Union in Portland starts at 5.74% APR — the lowest we found — but membership is regional. On reach, Clean Energy Credit Union is the only dedicated e-bike loan open to riders in every state, from 8.24% APR. So the shortlist comes down to which ones you're eligible for.

Can I join a credit union just to get a bike loan?

Often, yes. Many credit unions let anyone join by living or working in their area; a few national ones — PenFed, First Tech, Alliant, Connexus — let anyone in the country join, sometimes through a small one-time donation they'll cover for you. You usually open a savings account with as little as $5.

Are credit union bike loans cheaper than BNPL or a personal loan?

Usually, if your credit is good. Credit-union APRs here start in the 6–9% range, below most bank personal loans and well below the back end of buy-now-pay-later, which can run past 30% once a 0% promo ends. The trade-off is membership and a slightly slower process than tapping “pay later” at checkout.

Can I get a credit union bike loan with no credit score?

Rarely, but it exists. Spring Bank's GoGreen Cycle Loan in New York City requires no credit score — you need to be 18, earn at least $20,000, and buy a UL 2849 e-bike from a partner shop. Most other credit unions do check credit, even if they don't publish a minimum score.
