Credit unions that finance a bike
in California

California’s credit-union bike loans are a regional patchwork — which one you can join depends on the county you’re in.

Credit-union bike loans in California

Several California credit unions run a dedicated bicycle or e-bike loan, but each is tied to its own counties. USC Credit Union covers Los Angeles and Orange County from 8.44% APR; Redwood serves the North Bay; Bay Federal covers Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito and is one of the few that finances used bikes. If none fits your county, Clean Energy Credit Union’s e-bike loan (from 8.24%) is open to any Californian.

“As low as” rates assume strong credit, usually with autopay — yours may be higher. “Personal loan” rows are general loans you can spend on a bike, not bike-specific products. Confirm eligibility and terms on the lender’s page before applying. Last checked 2 June 2026.

The local picture

There’s no statewide e-bike loan in California — eligibility is by county, so the first question is which credit union’s field of membership you fall into. The national lenders below sidestep that entirely.

Before you borrow

Borrow less, pay less. A rebate shrinks the loan.

A credit union sets the rate; a rebate sets the amount. Claim any California e-bike rebate you qualify for first, then finance what’s left — you’ll pay interest on a smaller number, sometimes small enough that you barely need a loan at all.

What California riders ask

Which California credit union has the best e-bike loan?

It depends on where you live. USC Credit Union (Los Angeles and Orange County) starts at 8.44% APR; Redwood (North Bay) at 8.49%. If you’re outside their counties, Clean Energy Credit Union’s e-bike loan from 8.24% is open to anyone in the US.

Can I finance a used bike through a California credit union?

Yes — Bay Federal Credit Union, which serves Santa Cruz, Monterey and San Benito counties, explicitly finances new, used and electric bikes. Most others fund new bikes only or don’t state it.

Is there a California e-bike rebate as well as a loan?

California’s statewide e-bike rebate is closed, but some local programs are open. A rebate lowers the amount you’d need to borrow — see our California rebate guide.

Can anyone join these California credit unions?

Regional ones require you to live, work or study in their area. But PenFed, First Tech, Alliant and Connexus let anyone in the US join — sometimes through a small donation they’ll cover — so a Californian can use those too.
